Live Reviews

I have been an Evolution fan for quite some time now and let me tell you, this new line up the band has put together is the tightest and most powerful I've seen. I went to see Evolution at an outdoor show on the Lewiston side of the Great Falls Plaza and boy was it a show. Evolution opened up their set with the title track from their latest release "Altered Reality" and let me tell you these guys kicked my ass from the opening song. The band played a lot of songs from their CD such as "Tranquil Passing" and "Lost". The band also played quite a bit of new material I had not yet heard. They announced they would be recording a new CD in the fall and boy I can't wait. The new material was incredible. The new bass player, Tom Connors, played like he had been in the band for years. He showed off his talent and diverse style in the band's new song titled "Endless Game" where Tom breaks into an almost funk type slap bass piece that just totally blew my mind. Also drummer Brandon Tardiff was incredible. Let me tell you when I heard that ex-drummer Steve Boucher was not in the band anymore I thought to myself that evolution would not be the same, but boy was I wrong. Tardif pounded out songs with more power, attitude, and authority than I thought possible. He was incredibly tight and he threw in several technical drum thrills that just blew my mind!!! And what can I say about long time guitar player Corey Gallant? Tho thumbs to the sky!!!!! He ripped through tunes with an attitude that made you want to stand up and pit uncontrollably. His solos were incredible as always and he really showed his diversity as a player in a lot of the newer material. What about the vocals you say? Hard-core, heavy, and crushing as ever. Rick Servidio showed that he doesn't need a bass in his hands to kick your ass!!! His vocals were extremely powerful and his stage presence drew you into the music. I was extremely impressed with some of the new material. Rick showed his diversity by going from the bone crushing vocals we've all grown to love to a lighter yet powerful Pantera type approach. The new song "Political Rage" really showed this and really kicked my ass. The music overall was just incredible. Each riff has a certain catch that makes you want to stand up and move. After the band finished playing they hung around by the side of the stage and spoke to every single person that wanted to speak to them. They handed out CD's and were all around cool. I strongly reccomend you get out there and purchase Evolution's CD and check them out live. The live sound will blow you away. Take it from me, these guys are definitely the most powerful band in the area and they will kick your ass................

EVOLUTION

"Altered Reality"

Demo CD

Here we have some pretty decent thrash metal from Maine, USA. Maine? Just the area these guys are from came as a bit of a surprise so I had no idea what to expect.Anyway, Evolution (not to be confused with Evilution) self financed this disc. Thats the first sign of a hardworking band. The guitarist uses some kick ass riff structures. I do think the sound of the guitar couldv'e used a little more distortion or chunkiness but I think it fits the style these guys are going for. Alot of early thrash/speed metal influence heard here. Evolution will do pretty well if they keep up with what they have going on here. This is another great underground band to have in your collection. Check Evolution out!
